Russian forces relentlessly attempt to flank Pokrovsk: Ukrainian army repels nearly 70 attacks daily
Lieutenant Colonel Mykola Koval, head of the 14th Brigade’s press service, has commented on the Russian army’s activity in the Pokrovsk direction
He shared this information on the Espreso TV channel.
“The Russian army is trying to flank Pokrovsk. The Russians are not advancing directly due to significant losses, so they begin attacks from the left and right flanks. Their capacity to bypass the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is continuously decreasing. Every day, we repel 50-70 assaults in the Pokrovsk direction. Some attacks are even more intense, but the enemy’s tactic of attempting to bypass Pokrovsk has not changed,” Koval noted.
According to him, the 14th Assault Brigade recently repelled an assault in which the invading forces used armored vehicles.
“We stopped the attack, damaged, and destroyed the vehicles. In this direction, the enemy often uses automotive equipment, sometimes even motorcycles, as well as assault groups of up to 10 people. We are preparing all possible measures to protect the lives and health of our comrades. Backup positions and defensive lines are always ready to protect our fighters,” Koval added.
At times, the Russians try to disguise themselves as local residents by dressing accordingly. However, the Ukrainian defenders identify them and warn civilians about the need for evacuation.
- On Friday, January 17, MP Mariana Bezuhla claimed that the Russian army had allegedly entered Pokrovsk. However, the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Grouping refuted her statement.
