Russian forces conduct 20 attacks in Pokrovsk sector on August 23

Ukraine's General Staff reported the information as of 4:00 p.m.

The border areas of Sumy and Chernihiv regions continue to experience Russian shelling. Additionally, Russian aircraft have conducted 14 strikes and launched 20 aerial guided bombs at Ukraine-controlled areas in Russia’s Kursk region.

Frontline situation

In the Kharkiv sector, Russian forces have stormed Ukrainian positions four times today in the areas of Hlyboke, Starytsia, and Vovchansk. Three combat engagements are ongoing.

In the Kupyansk sector, there have been nine attacks. Ukrainian defenders are holding their ground near Petropavlivka, Kurylivka, Synkivka, and Stelmakhivka, with two firefights still active. Russia is using aviation heavily, having launched ten aerial guided bombs in the areas of Novoosynove, Bohuslavka, and Kruhliakivka.

In the Lyman sector, Russian units continue their attacks in the areas of Druzheliubivka, Novosadove, Nevske, Torske, and Terny. Since the start of the day, Ukrainian troops have repelled eight Russian attacks in this sector. A battle is currently ongoing near Terny.

Fighting continues in the Siversk sector. The Russian army launched seven attacks near Verkhniokamianske, Vyimka, Bilohorivka, and Spirne, attempting to seize Ukrainian positions. Ukrainian defense forces successfully repelled all these attacks.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Russian forces conducted four assaults near Ivanivske and Kalynivka. Two firefights are currently ongoing near Kalynivka.

In the Toretsk sector, there have been five Russian attacks, particularly near Nelipivka and Toretsk. Ukrainian defenders have repelled three of these attacks, with two still ongoing. Additionally, Russia's aircraft struck Druzhba with unguided aerial missiles.

The Pokrovsk sector is currently the most intense area on the frontline. Since the start of the day, Russian forces have made 20 attempts to attack Ukrainian positions in Vozdvyzhenka, Kalynove, Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, Ptyche, and Zelene Pole. Ukrainian defenders have repelled 11 of these attacks, with nine combat engagements still ongoing.

The situation in the Kurakhove sector is also challenging. Here, Russian forces have launched 15 attacks against Ukrainian units near Kostiantynivka, Heorhiivka, Krasnohorivka, and Karlivka. Fighting continues in five different locations.

In the Vremivka sector, Russian forces have attacked Ukrainian positions seven times. Three attacks have been repelled near Vuhledar, Vodiane, and Kostiantynivka, with ongoing fighting near Vodiane.

In other areas, Russian forces are currently less active but continue to use bomber and attack aircraft, as well as artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, to shell Ukrainian positions and localities.
