Russian forces attack Ukrainian positions 48 times over last day, mostly in Marinka sector

The General Staff shared the information in the evening report for January 22.

Russian attacks on Ukraine

Over the last day, 53 combat engagements took place. In total, Russian forces launched 2 missile and 41 air strikes, fired 28 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilians. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

Frontline update

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border.  Russian troops also launched air strikes near 2 settlements. Over 50 settlements came under Russian artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kupyansk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled four attacks near Synkivka, Kharkiv region, where Russian forces tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops. The enemy launched air strikes near Pishchane in Kharkiv region and Novoyehorivka in Luhansk region. More than 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack near Terny in Donetsk region and four more attacks near Makiivka, Bilohorivka, and Serebryanske forestry in Luhansk region, where the Russian forces tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops.  More than 10 settlements suffered from Russian artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian army repelled 7 attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchiyivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation. The enemy launched air strikes in the vicinity of 5 settlements in Donetsk region. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainina defenders fought off 9 Russian attacks near Stepove, Avdiivka and another 5 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of our troops. The enemy launched air strikes in the vicinity of 3 towns in Donetsk region. About 15 settlements in Donetsk region came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Marinka sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation 16 times. The enemy launched air strikes near Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region. Five settlements of Donetsk region came under artillery and mortar fire.

Russian troops did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions in the Shakhtarsk sector. They carried out air strikes near Staromayorske, Donetsk region, and Novodarivka, Zaporizhzhia region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack near Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region, where the occupying Russian army unsuccessfully tried to regain their lost ground. Over 15 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, 10 settlements in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery, MLRS fire.

Russian forces still intend to drive Ukrainian units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. During the day, Russian forces made one unsuccessful assault on the positions of Ukrainian troops.

Attacks by Ukrainian forces on Russian positions

During the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 8 concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment. Ukrainian air defense forces also destroyed one Kh-59 guided missile.

Ukrainian missile troops struck a Russian control center, an artillery system and one radar station.
