Russian drone attack injures 14 in Sumy region, damages port infrastructure in Odesa

The Ukrainian Armed Forces Air Force reported the information.

At 9:52 p.m., the military warned of the threat of ballistic weapons being used from the south, and a few minutes later, they spotted a missile heading toward Odesa.

At 9:57 p.m., Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov wrote about the sound of an explosion in Odesa, and at 9:59 p.m., the military reported another target on the city.

Air defense operations in Zaporizhzhia

At 7:09 a.m., Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported on air defense operations.

Attack on Odesa region

The Izmail District State Administration reported that the Izmail district of Odesa region was attacked by Russian drones.

“Despite the active work of the Air Defense Forces, unfortunately, there were hits. As a result of the attack, port infrastructure was damaged. Fires broke out, which are being extinguished by units of the State Emergency Service in the Odesa region,” the statement said.

It is noted that one person was injured as a result of the attack.

According to the State Emergency Service, a large-scale fire broke out at a fuel and energy infrastructure facility in the Odesa region as a result of the hits.

Attack on Sumy region 

At 1:43 a.m., Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that the Russians had launched a massive strike on the Okhtyrka community.

"Russian strike drones attacked the private sector. There are fires at the impact sites. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties. There are injuries, and people are seeking medical attention. All emergency services are involved in dealing with the aftermath, and the victims are receiving the necessary assistance,” the report said.

The Sumy region police reported that as of 6:03 a.m., 12 people were known to have been injured as a result of the Russian attack, including two children.

An apartment building, 13 private homes, a farm building, and a garage were damaged.

At 10:11, the State Emergency Service reported that the number of victims had increased to 14, including three children. Emergency workers pulled a woman out of the rubble.

"The hits were recorded at several locations at once. Private homes, non-residential buildings and cars of citizens were damaged. Fires broke out. Rescuers eliminated all sources of combustion," the report says.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed that as a result of the strike on the Sumy region, a family with injured children — 5 months, 4 years, 6 years old — appealed for help.

Zelenskyy's reaction

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the Russian night attack.

He reported that the consequences of Russian strikes were recorded in Okhtyrka in the Sumy region, as well as in the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions. He specified that in Odesa region, Russia struck a gas distribution station. In addition, in Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, five apartment buildings were damaged by a guided aerial bomb strike, and at least three people are still under the rubble. A rescue operation is underway there.

"All these are demonstrative strikes that only confirm the need for pressure on Moscow, the need to introduce new sanctions and tariffs until diplomacy works fully. I thank all partners who are helping to stop this Russian war. Together with the U.S., Europe and all who want peace, we work every day to guarantee security. We need strong security guarantees to ensure a truly reliable and lasting peace," the president emphasized.
