Russian claims of advance into Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region unfounded - ISW
Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War have analyzed a false report spread by Russia about an alleged incursion into the Dnipropetrovsk region. ISW concludes that this information is not true
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported the information.
“ISW has not observed geolocated evidence of these claimed advances near the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast border as of this writing,” the analysts noted.
The Russian Ministry of Defense began spreading information about an alleged incursion into the Dnipropetrovsk region the day before. While analyzing the frontline situation, ISW also referred to a Russian milblogger who claimed that Russian forces had allegedly reached the border of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions northwest of Horikhove.
According to him, Russian troops allegedly advanced southeast of Muravka, west of Kotlyarivka, and west and southwest of Bohdanivka. However, analysts were also unable to confirm this information.
“ISW forecasted in November 2024 that the Russian military command could advance to the southeasternmost part of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast to interdict Ukrainian ground lines of communications (GLOCs) that support Ukrainian positions in Donetsk Oblast and to envelop these Ukrainian positions in support of Russia's wider campaign to seize all of Donetsk Oblast,” ISW added.
- On the morning of Sunday, June 8, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that Russian troops had invaded Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region. However, the Ukrainian General Staff refuted this information.
