Russian troops will be forced to retreat from Pokrovsk – Defense Express
Valerii Riabykh, military expert and development director at the media and consulting company Defense Express, assessed the situation in the Pokrovsk sector
He shared his insights on Espreso TV.
"According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff report, the Pokrovsk front is definitely one of the hottest areas, with the highest number of ongoing battles. This is because the enemy is still trying to achieve objectives that they’ve been unable to meet over this extended period.
Additionally, it’s becoming clear that the enemy’s position in this area is not ideal, and they’re throwing their largest reserves into this front to improve their position. The thing is, this overall push has led them into a trap, reaching a point where they can't hold ground. Their main goal was to capture the city of Pokrovsk and advance to this line, which, if taken, would have given them a stronger position," he explained.
Valerii Riabykh pointed out that, with the Ukrainian Armed Forces bolstering their reserves, the Russians now face a high likelihood of being pushed back or forced to retreat to more advantageous positions.
"Right now, with the increased reserves from the Ukrainian Defense Forces and additional forces being allocated to this front, Russia has a real chance of being pushed back or forced to pull back to better positions further east, due to the terrain in this area. Overall, the Russian army is still launching assaults, but as foreign reports note, the Defense Forces are holding strong, largely due to the increased use of unmanned systems, which helps create 'kill zones' that slow the Russian down.
In response, the Russian troos are attempting to counter by launching assaults on mopeds and motorcycles, trying to pass through these zones as quickly as possible to avoid being hit by the guaranteed destruction provided by the growing capabilities of the unmanned systems at the disposal of the Ukrainian Defense Forces," the military expert noted.
- The invading Russian army is trying to reach the administrative border of Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, despite claims about being "ready for a ceasefire" during the May holidays.
