Russian army may have more tactical successes at front by winter - military expert

Oleksandr Musienko, director of the Center for Military Legal Studies, says that Russia is currently advancing most actively in the Kurakhove, Pokrovsk, and Kupyansk sectors

He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.

"Commenting on the exhaustion of Russian troops is a very thankless task, because it is difficult to predict when they will stop. And when this moment comes, everyone will notice it, because then there will be no assaults by large enemy groups, there will be shelling and that's it. I will say very carefully that we should not expect the enemy to stop and stop these numerous infantry assaults by winter. We have to expect that the Russian army may still have tactical successes by winter. The enemy will probably throw everything at advancing on Kurakhove, which is just northwest of Vuhledar. However, Kurakhove is somewhat larger than Vuhledar, so it will be more difficult for the enemy," noted the director of the Center for Military Legal Studies.

According to him, the Pokrovsk and Kupyansk directions are also on the Russian agenda. That is, there are three points where the enemy is most actively advancing.

"In my opinion, we should not expect any slowdown in the pace of the enemy's offensive operations until winter. Another point that needs to be understood is that today the most important offensive unit of the Russian troops is the infantryman. And there are two things we need to do to avoid guessing when they will be exhausted. That is, there are two conditions that we need to fulfill. The first is to destroy the infantry behind enemy lines, that is, to attack the operational rear at 10-20 km and 50 km. The second is to reduce Russia's ability to finance payments to these infantrymen. Putin is constantly budgeting more money to hire more people and send them on meaty assaults. So, as long as these infantrymen are there, as long as they are paid, they will go on assaults," summarized Musienko.

  • On October 5, the General Staff stated that 67 combat engagements had taken place on the front since the beginning of the day. The hottest spots were in the Pokrovsk sector, where Russians have already carried out 15 attacks, and in the Kurakhove sector, where they have carried out 14 attacks.
