European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen stated this, as reported by Suspilne.

She noted that the European Commission is aware of the attack on the station and is currently monitoring gas flows through the Trans-Balkan corridor.

"According to our information, gas continues to flow. We are in constant contact with all countries in the region. Our top priority is always the security of supply to countries. Therefore, we will need to assess what measures can and cannot be taken, and what responsibilities fall to the Commission," Itkonen said.

According to the spokesperson, as of August 7, the European Commission had not discussed specific security measures for the Trans-Balkan gas corridor infrastructure.

Strike on gas facility in Odesa region: what is known

Ukraine's Ministry of Energy reported the information on August 6.

The ministry stated that liquefied natural gas from the USA and test volumes from Azerbaijan were supplied through the Gas Transmission System (GTS).

“This compressor station was part of the route connecting Greek LNG terminals with Ukrainian gas storage facilities via the Trans-Balkan pipeline, through which LNG from the USA and test volumes of Azerbaijani gas were already delivered,” the statement explained.

Russia attacked the station with dozens of drones.

“This is a Russian strike purely against civilian infrastructure, deliberately targeting energy and simultaneously undermining relations with Azerbaijan, the USA, and European partners, as well as the normal lives of Ukrainians and all Europeans,” the Ministry of Energy emphasized.

Experts are currently working at the strike site to assess the damage.

“This is a clear and unmistakable signal to all of Europe, which plans to completely abandon Russian natural gas by 2027. The massive Russian drone attack on a key compressor station of the Trans-Balkan route shows that Moscow will use all available means and leverage to destroy Europe’s energy independence and alternative gas supply routes,” said Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk.

  • On August 1, the Russian occupying army attacked a train in Sumy with drones, damaging windows. No passengers were injured.
