Russia starts using new 90-kg combined warheads on Shaheds – Defense Express
Russian long-range Shahed-136 'kamikaze' drones are now being equipped with two new types of combined warheads — one made in Russia and the other in Iran
Defense Express reported the information.
The Russian-made 90-kg warhead reportedly has a combined effect: shaped-charge, fragmentation, high-explosive, and incendiary.
The Iranian warhead also weighs 90 kg and combines shaped-charge, fragmentation, and high-explosive effects — but without incendiary elements.
Journalists note that the use of Iranian warheads again shows active cooperation between Moscow and Tehran on Shahed-136 production. It continues despite the fact that localized production of these drones is already underway at two Russian facilities — Alabuga in Tatarstan and Kupol in Izhevsk.
Russia has repeatedly introduced new warheads for its long-range drones. For example, in 2024, it began using a 50-kg combined warhead with thermobaric and fragmentation effects.
- On the evening of May 19, Russian forces launched Shahed-type drones against Ukraine. Strikes caused damage in the Dnipropetrovsk region and in Kherson.
