Russia spreads false claims of Ukraine plotting water contamination in Kherson region
Russians are spreading disinformation, falsely accusing Ukrainian authorities of preparing to use chemical and bacteriological weapons to poison water sources in the Kherson region
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Volodymyr Saldo, the puppet governor of the Kherson region, claimed this alleged "contamination of water sources."
"The so-called governor of the Kherson region, Volodymyr Saldo, in a statement to Russian propagandists, pushed the false narrative that Ukrainian authorities are preparing to use chemical and biological weapons to contaminate the water bodies in the Kherson region," the Center stated.
The report clarifies that this is another attempt by the Russian Federation to discredit the Ukrainian authorities in temporarily occupied territories. At the same time, the goal of such Russian statements is to stir panic among the local population.
"Russians also routinely accuse Ukraine of planning to use banned weapons, often as a distraction from their own war crimes or to mask their preparations for provocations," the Center emphasized.
The message stresses that this is not the first time Russia has spread claims about alleged water contamination in Kherson. Local authorities have previously debunked these statements.
- On September 27, it was also reported that Russian propaganda fabricated a story claiming that Western intelligence agencies had approved Kyrylo Budanov’s candidacy for the presidency of Ukraine.
