Russia loses air defense systems, 29 artillery systems and 800 soldiers — Ukraine's General Staff

Over the last day, 86 combat clashes took place on the frontline. Ukrainian defenders repelled most of the attacks in the Novopavlivka, Lyman and Avdiivka directions and eliminated another 800 soldiers

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported the information.

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to April 23, 2024, amounted to:

  • personnel – about 461,060 (+800) 
  • tanks – 7,241 (+5) 
  • armored fighting vehicles – 13,916 (+12)
  • artillery systems – 11,765 (+29) 
  • MLRS – 1,046
  • air defense systems – 769 (+1)
  • aircraft – 348

  • UAVs operational-tactical level – 9,407 (+23)
  • cruise missiles – 2,117
  • warships/boats – 26
  • submarines – 1 
  • vehicles and fuel tanks – 15,845 (+33)
  • special equipment – 1,936 (+2) 

Frontline update: Ukrainian Defense Forces repel over 80 Russian attacks in a day

Near the state Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

Northeastern border area: the Russian army maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

Kupyansk direction: Russian troops did not conduct offensive operations.

Lyman direction: Russian troops conducted 19 attacks near Serebryanka forestry and 4 settlements in Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

Bakhmut direction: the Ukrainian Defense Forces rebuffed 16 attacks near 7 settlements in the Donetsk region.

Avdiivka direction: Ukraine's defenders repelled 18 attacks near 10 settlements in the Donetsk region.

Novopavlivka direction: Ukrainian defense forces are holding back Russian troops near 5 settlements in the Donetsk region, where they tried to break through the Ukrainian defense over 20 times.

Orikhiv direction: Russian troops launched 3 attacks near Staromayorske, Donetsk region; Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region.

Kherson direction: Russian troops remain determined to drive Ukrainian units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Over the past day, 7 attacks on Ukrainian troops' positions were made.

Russia launches missiles, drones and artillery at Ukraine: Ukrainian Armed Forces hit 17 Russian troop concentrations

Over the past day, Russia launched 6 missile strikes, 77 air strikes, and 100 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. 

At night, the Russian army attacked Ukraine once again, using 16 Shahed UAVs. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 15 of these attack UAVs.

Over the past day, 27 Ukrainian settlements were hit by Russian air strikes.

More than 120 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.

Over the past day, Ukrainian aviation struck 2 Russia anti-aircraft missile systems and 16 concentrations of personnel, weapons and military equipment.

Ukrainian missile troops struck 1 Russin control center, 2 air defense facilities and 1 concentration of Russian personnel.

  • On the night of April 23, Russia attacked Ukraine with Shaheds: an explosion was heard in Odesa, and air defense was reported in the Kyiv region.
