Russia increases number of troops near Chernihiv, Sumy regions - General Staff
Russian forces are building up troops near Chernihiv and Sumy regions amid constant shelling of Ukraine's border communities
This was announced at a briefing by the acting Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Ihor Prokhorenko, Ukrinform reports.
At the same time, the representative of the General Staff called the situation in the Sumy sector "controlled".
"As for the Sumy direction, the situation there is stable and controlled today, the relevant group of troops is holding the border areas of the Russian Federation, which is carrying out restraining actions to prevent the relocation of our units to other threatening areas," Prokhorenko said.
The General Staff officer added that Russian enemy is attacking Sumy and Chernihiv regions every day.
"Every day the enemy conducts air and artillery strikes on the positions of our troops and civilian infrastructure, and uses Shahed UAVs," Prokhorenko said.
According to the representative of the General Staff, the situation in other areas is stable and has not changed dramatically.
