Russia drops about 250 bombs on Avdiivka in two weeks
In the first 2 weeks of 2024, Russian troops dropped about 250 guided aerial bombs on Avdiivka, Donetsk region. Comparatively, the city suffered 146 air strikes in 2023
The head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Vadym Filashkin, shared the information with Radio Liberty.
"In the first two weeks of the new year, the enemy dropped about 250 guided bombs on Avdiivka. That is, the intensity of attacks on Avdiivka has increased several times," he said.
According to him, 1131 people still remain in the city.
The situation is similar in Chasiv Yar.
"The situation in Chasiv Yar is really difficult. There are about 850 people there now. The Invincibility Points (a Ukrainian government initiative providing essential services such as heat, water, electricity, mobile communication, etc.) are operational, and medical facilities are functioning to the best of their capacity under combat conditions," said Filashkin, noting that the Regional Military Administration and volunteers are providing the residents with the necessary humanitarian aid.
Most people refuse to leave because they do not want to leave their property behind. At the same time, the evacuation continues, with 20 to 50 people leaving the city every day.
"The numbers are not stable, with 25-40-50 people, including children, departing each day. I would like more of them to evacuate. People are leaving very slowly, explaining that ‘these are our homes, our households,’" said Filashkin.
He reminded that the evacuation route runs through Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk to the Zhytomyr region.
