Russia can produce up to 2,000 Shaheds per month - aviation expert
Aviation expert, member of the public council at the State Aviation Service, Bohdan Dolintse, notes the production of Russian attack drones is growing
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"Unfortunately, the Russian production of Shahed-type drones continues to grow. While at the beginning of last year, the figure was approximately 300–400 units per month, by the end of this year, it has exceeded 1,500 units. Overall, as of today, the Russian production volume may reach 1,800–2,000 drones per month. This creates challenges in countering these strike assets, primarily due to their sheer quantity," Dolintse noted.
According to the aviation expert, the second important component of counteraction is the operation of electronic warfare systems. We see that some drones are being hit by these systems.
“But the enemy is not standing still, and new models of drones are appearing, with the number of antennas increasing. There are already cases when drones use 12 or even 20 antennas. Of course, such drones are less sensitive to the effects of electronic warfare,” Dolintse explained.
The aviation expert also noted that the Russians are adapting their tactics by increasing the altitude to make it more difficult or impossible for mobile fire groups to shoot down the UAVs.
“The number of launches is also increasing. Usually, drones are accumulated up to a hundred units, and then a massive attack is launched on a particular city or region to overload the air defense system and complicate the ability to destroy enemy drones,” Dolintse explained.
