The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on February 2.

The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult. Over the last day, 55 combat engagements took place.

"Russia also launched 50 airstrikes and 19 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops’ and localities. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks resulted in civilian casualties. Residential private and apartment buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged," the General Staff writes.

Frontline situation

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 35 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked.

In the Kupyansk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 Russian attacks near Synkivka and Ivanivka, where the Russian troops tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled three attacks near Terny, Donetsk region, where the Russian army, supported by aviation, tried to break through the Ukrainian defense to no avail. About 15 settlements were shelled with artillery and mortars.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled two attacks near Bohdanivka and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 19 attacks near Avdiivka and another 10 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the Russian troops, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the Ukrainian army's defense. More than 15 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Marinka sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian army in the areas of Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. About 5 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Shakhtarsk sector, Ukrainian soldiers repelled an enemy attack south of Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled three attacks near Robotyne and west of Verbove. About 20 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, Russia does not abandon its intention to drive Ukrainian units from footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, 6 unsuccessful attempts to storm the positions of Ukrainian troops were made during the day. About 5 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military targets

Throughout the day, Ukrainian aviation struck at 10 Russian military positions.

Missile troops struck 3 munitions depots.
