Rubio hopeful US aid pause could be resolved, sees promise in Ukraine’s truce proposal
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with the media aboard his military airplane while en route to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
The US Secretary of State expressed hope that Washington’s suspension of military aid could be “resolved” during crucial discussions in Saudi Arabia aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, The Guardian reported.
“I think the notion of the pause in aid, broadly, is something I hope we can resolve. Obviously, what happens tomorrow will be key to that,” Rubio told reporters ahead of the US-Ukraine talks in Jeddah.
He also commented on the possibility of a ceasefire, suggesting support for Ukraine’s proposal for an air and sea truce.
“I’m not saying that alone is enough, but it’s the kind of concession you would need to see in order to end the conflict,” he said.
Rubio has now arrived in Saudi Arabia, but although Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also there tonight, the two are not expected to meet.
