Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko says that Ukraine's Defense Forces successfully counterattacked around Pishchane in the Kharkiv sector

He spoke about this on Espreso TV.

“In the Kharkiv region, despite the Russian plans to advance and capture Kupyansk and Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi, Ukrainian troops managed to conduct counterattacks around Pishchane and further south. There is a positive prospect there, because it should be recalled that the Russians had plans to advance towards Kupyansk in order to cut Ukrainian forces in half, into the northern part, where Kupyansk is, and the southern part. In addition, advancing on Vovchansk, if the invader managed to go further, it would have been the Russian entry into the rear and flank of the Ukrainian group defending Kupyansk and Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi. That's why the Ukrainian Defense Forces have recently taken appropriate positive actions to improve the situation,” commented the lieutenant general.

According to him, in the Kharkiv direction, with the participation of the Intelligence Service and other units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, the situation in the direction of Lyptsi was improved. If you look at the map, you can see the advance from our side near Hlyboke.

“However, Vovchansk is another area in the Kharkiv region where the fighting has intensified and the Russians have managed to take control of the aggregate plant again. Fierce fighting continues there. In general, in connection with the situation in the Kursk region, it is worth recalling that since May 2024, the Russian forces have been trying to create a buffer zone. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are preventing Russian forces from making active advances. At the same time, Ukrainian troops have formed such a buffer zone in the Kursk region, destroyed the Russian military hub in Sudzha, from where Russian forces were used to attack the Sumy and Kharkiv directions. We must continue to fight for the existence of this buffer zone. There is fighting there now, so the situation is very dynamic,” summarized Ihor Romanenko.

  • On October 18, it became known that the DIU's special forces had cleared an important area of Russians - the village of Kruhliakivka in Kharkiv region.

  • In addition, the area of active hostilities is expanding in the Kupyansk direction, so residents of communities subject to intense shelling should evacuate.
