Trump has no plan for Ukraine war resolution, but there are outlines — Ukrainian politician
Politician Oleh Rybachuk, head of the analytical and advocacy organization Center for Common Actions and former Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European Integration (2005), noted that with the situation in the Middle East being resolved, U.S. foreign policy will focus much more on Ukraine
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Many observers are saying that, following the successful halting of the hot phase in Israel, it would be very natural and desirable for Trump to demonstrate the same approach toward Ukraine. This is because the Middle East and Ukraine are the two key issues on the foreign policy agenda. On one hand, this is a relief for us because the seriousness of efforts that would have been required for the Israeli-Arab conflict will fade from Trump’s radar, and much more attention will be given to Ukraine. The issue of Ukraine will not disappear from the agenda," emphasized Oleh Rybachuk.
According to him, there is news that is being actively discussed about Trump instructing his aides to arrange a phone call with Putin, though they are speaking more cautiously about the actual meeting. Depending on what is achieved during the conversation, a meeting could take place in a few months.
"There are still no details of Trump's plan, although outlines are emerging. It is being repeated that about 20% of the territory occupied by Russia in Ukraine will remain temporarily under Russian influence, and a demarcation line will be established along which security measures will be implemented. In particular, the Americans quite logically repeat that the success of Ukraine's security will largely depend on the Europeans. If the Europeans are willing to take on a significant portion, as they call it, 'the cost of this ceasefire,' meaning funding and sending their peacekeeping forces, then the U.S. will reduce its share of financing from 50% today to about 20%, in order to maintain a temporary border and prevent the war from reigniting," the politician commented.
Rybachuk mentioned that Trump's team is preparing two potential packages for Russia. The first involves easing sanctions if Russia demonstrates a willingness to compromise, while the second would impose stricter sanctions. Essentially, the situation will likely remain much as it is now.
