Over 90% of Denmark’s support for Ukraine goes to defense equipment – Ambassador
Danish Ambassador to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen stated that over 90% of Denmark’s aid to Kyiv is related to defense, though Copenhagen also implements humanitarian programs
Speaking to Espreso TV correspondent Kateryna Halko, Mikkelsen reaffirmed Denmark’s strong military support for Ukraine. When asked whether Denmark would stop arms supplies if Russia demanded it during a ceasefire, he responded:
"Denmark actively supports Ukraine with equipment and weapons. I often say we provide three things: weapons, weapons, and weapons. Though that’s not entirely true, as we also run important civilian programs. But over 90% of Denmark’s efforts in Ukraine are linked to defense, which is essential for the country’s survival. Without arms, you cannot survive."
He also highlighted Denmark’s direct funding of weapons and military equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers, calling it an innovative and effective approach that the country plans to continue.
"This has proven to be very innovative, very effective, and highly flexible. We want to keep supporting Ukraine so that its defense industry can stand on its own feet. Your country has enormous potential," Mikkelsen added.
- Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen have expressed their readiness to send Danish troops to Ukraine if necessary.
