There is a work by Robert Whitman that premiered in 1965 at the Filmmakers’ Cinematheque theater in New York

The initial idea of the work was to create a space where images of people were projected onto themselves, plus specific lighting was used to give the figures specific reflections. It turned out that, for example, two people were moving on the screen and crossing the stage at the same time. Or when the images on the film were transformed into live ones with the help of mirrors. That is, the pre-recorded footage on the screen took place in the past, but was repeated on stage in the present in the form of transformed actions that were captured on film. As a result, space and time became the main elements of this performance. Just as it is now, when not only space from classical geopolitics, but also time (timing, online/offline) and logistics are no less important.

“My point is that, among other things, the principle of decisions and actions-simultaneity or phasing/sequencing-matters.”

Putin is acting according to the first principle (combining peace talk, intensified military attacks on Ukraine, flattery of the American president, and hybrid actions against Europe). The West (both Europe and the United States) follows the second principle (waiting, the same “psychological barrier” Trump criticized Biden for waiting, and the phased nature of Europe's defense policy).

However, it has been demonstrated more than once that in a war where the practices of the past, present, and future are used, an advantage can be gained by using different mechanisms and tools at the same time.
