Nuclear strike won’t destroy Ukraine—it’ll ensure it gets nuclear weapons — journalist Satter
Journalist and publicist David Satter, author of books on the collapse of the USSR and post-Soviet Russia, says that Russia has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons: both when Ukraine was receiving Javelins and when the delivery of HIMARS systems was being discussed
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
“The Russians would like the world to believe that if they start losing, they will actually use nuclear weapons. But in reality, it’s very difficult to predict how such weapons would be used and what advantages the Russian Federation would gain from that. Given these circumstances, Russia would no longer be able to receive economic support from its major partners – China and India. Therefore, I believe that Ukraine must fight based on principles and understand what the internationally accepted norms are,” the journalist noted.
According to him, the world cannot control the Russian Federation, and the threat of nuclear weapons has existed since their invention.
“The Russians threatened nuclear weapons when the U.S. discussed sending HIMARS to Ukraine. They even threatened nuclear confrontation when the Javelins arrived in Ukraine. At that time, there was no war yet; it was only about defense. So if we want to live by reacting to their threats rather than following our Western values and principles, then everything we could do would be paralyzed. It’s very important to remember that the West also has nuclear weapons. If there is a nuclear attack on Ukraine, it won’t destroy Ukraine, but it will guarantee that Ukraine will have nuclear weapons afterward. I think the Russians know this – or at least, they should know,” David Satter emphasized.
