Norway provides equipment to overcome consequences of Russia's attack on Chornobyl NPP
Norway has provided Ukraine with equipment to counteract the effects of a Russian drone attack on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism
On March 27, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported this.
"We thank for the unwavering support for Ukraine during this difficult time, as we fight for the right to be free and independent in the bloody war unleashed by Russia. I would like to specifically thank the Norwegian Agency for their swift response to the DSNS request through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to provide equipment for mitigating the consequences of the Russian drone attack, which hit the protective shell of the 'Shelter' facility at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant," said Andriy Danyk, the chief of the State Emergency Service.
The press service noted that 1,500 individual radiation measuring devices (dosimeters) and 5 automated radiation control systems will assist rescuers in quickly determining radiation levels while working in dangerous areas, significantly improving their safety and enabling more effective responses to radiation emergencies.
Danyk emphasized that Ukraine is interested in further cooperation with the Norwegian Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency and the government of Norway to restore and create a safe environment in Ukraine, as well as to protect the population from radiation and nuclear threats.
- The International Cooperation Account for Chornobyl will allocate €400 million to assess damage to the NSC Arch caused by a Russian drone strike on February 14.
