No Patriot air defense systems damaged in latest Russian strikes — Zelenskyy
None of Ukraine’s Patriot air defense systems were damaged or destroyed during the recent large-scale Russian missile and drone attacks
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting with journalists on June 20.
"Regarding the Patriots — I want to dispel the rumors: not a single Patriot system was destroyed or damaged as a result of these mass attacks. What some media reported does not reflect reality," the president assured.
Zelenskyy also spoke about the work of Ukraine’s air defense, noting that about a third of Shahed drones are being intercepted by mobile fire groups. These units now rely less on heavy machine guns and increasingly use more innovative weapons, such as interceptor drones.
"Four companies in Ukraine are producing these systems. Two of them are doing very well. Today, during the attack (referring to Russia’s June 20 strike on Ukraine), dozens of Russian drones were intercepted using such systems. We are no longer talking about isolated cases. We understand that this tool works," he said.
Zelenskyy added that agreements to fund the production of these drones were reached with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the G7 summit.
"We need a little more time to scale this into mass production," the president noted.
He also stressed that Ukraine has already contracted more artillery and both long-range and short-range drones for this year than in any other year of the war.
