Next winter may be good time for Russia to provoke EU country - diplomat Chaly
Valeriy Chaly, diplomat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States (2015-2019), believes that Russia's provocation against the EU country may take place next winter, when the US will have a certain period of transition of power between the elections and the inauguration
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"Russia still wants to make a provocation, and until it faces NATO, it will not understand anything. I'm not making predictions, I just know something about Russian psychology, they are eager to try because they are sure that the EU and NATO countries are weaklings. Russia still respects the United States, which has nuclear weapons. And Russia does not consider Europeans capable of resisting it, and will definitely try to get in somewhere, so there may be a provocation," Chaly said.
"In my opinion, Russia may carry out such a provocation at the first opportunity next winter, when the US will have a certain period of not just anarchy but a certain transfer of power between the November 5 election and the inauguration, so we need to be careful here, because it may be a convenient period for Russia," the diplomat added.
Valeriy Chaly reiterated that until Russia receives a decent response, it will continue to interfere and create provocations.
- Earlier it was reported that Germany would deploy the largest military brigade in Lithuania to deter Russia. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Lithuanian counterpart Arvydas Anušauskas signed a roadmap for the deployment of a Bundeswehr brigade of about 5,000 troops in Lithuania starting in 2025.
- Also, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that in 2025 the country would send troops to Latvia: this is necessary to deter Russia from attacking.
- In addition, Estonia is considering the possibility of mining the border with Russia, in particular, installing anti-personnel and anti-tank mines.
