This was reported by the Voice of America, citing sources in the White House.
According to the sources, in addition to the Hawk, the administration of US President Joe Biden will provide Ukraine with 155 mm artillery ammunition and other ammunition and equipment to support Ukraine's defence needs.
As the media outlet noted, this is the Biden administration's response to Ukraine's request for air defense support after Russia's strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities in recent weeks.
For reference: The MIM-23 HAWK was introduced in the 1950s and has been upgraded over the years to counter missile attacks. According to the Pentagon, this air defense system has been exported to more than 10 countries.
- Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the upcoming delivery of three Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine from Romania, Germany and the Netherlands, with several other countries providing additional missiles to complement them.
