Moldova serves as important example for all of Europe

Russia promoted an alliance of pro-Russian forces and far-right groups in these elections. For now, Russia lost. But it will draw lessons for the next elections in EU countries, where similar alliances are already forming. And while Sandu was supported by popular European democratic leaders, soon they will be the ones who need support.

Obviously, not all far‑right groups are pro‑Russian — for example, in Italy. But Italy is more of an exception. For Russia, it is important to deprive Ukraine of European support — namely funding for weapons and for the social protection of society. That is their only chance to win.

They could continue fighting for a few more years to try to change the social and political landscape in France, Germany, and Poland. That’s why Moldova is a valuable lesson for everyone.
