Ukraine's Defense Ministry launches licensed production of FPV drones
At the end of last year, Ukraine's Defense Ministry launched the production of its own FPV drones based at a state-owned enterprise
The ministry’s press service confirmed the launch.
A pilot project for codified FPV drone production kicked off in December. Under a tripartite agreement, a private developer licensed UAV production at one of the Ministry of Defense’s state-owned enterprises.
The drones will be supplied to Ukraine’s Defense Forces. Once production technology is refined and scaled, the enterprise will be able to compete independently in Defense Procurement Agency tenders and attract other potential customers.
"By integrating the state into production chains, we’ve gained a clear understanding of drone manufacturing costs and our competitive edge in this market. This will help us improve product quality through fair competition," said First Deputy Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk.
The ministry added that experts from the Main Directorate of Defense Innovations have developed a roadmap for similar production in collaboration with other UAV developers. This initiative is expected to significantly boost production capacity and scale up weapons manufacturing.
- Earlier this year, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that one of Ukraine’s key goals is to make 2025 a record year for drone production.
