Russia's Medvedev threatens: 'Kyiv may not see May 10'
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev is threatening Kyiv with destruction "in the event of a real provocation" on May 9
He wrote about this on Telegram.
“Zelenskyy said that he rejects Putin's proposal for a three-day ceasefire on May 9 and cannot ensure the safety of world leaders in Moscow. And who is looking for his guarantees? It's just a verbal provocation. He understands that in the event of a real provocation on Victory Day, no one guarantees that Kyiv will see May 10,” Medvedev said.
Zelenskyy’s statement
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously noted during a conversation with journalists that Ukraine cannot guarantee the safety of foreign representatives during planned trips to Moscow for the May 9 parade, as the Russian side could take any actions against the guests and blame Ukraine for them. Ukraine, on the other hand, cannot be held responsible for what happens in Russia, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
“Our position is very simple regarding all countries’ representatives that have traveled or plan to travel on May 9: we cannot take responsibility for what happens on the territory of the Russian Federation. They are the ones providing your security, and therefore, we will not give you any guarantees. Because we don’t know what Russia will do on those dates. It may carry out various actions on its part — arson, explosions, and so on. And then blame us. As president, I believe — and I told the foreign minister — that we should tell people who reach out to us: ‘From a security standpoint, we do not recommend visiting the Russian Federation. And if you do, don’t ask us. It’s your personal decision,’” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, Ukraine “behaves decently toward China and the countries that have not supported Ukraine since the beginning of the war, and instead try to balance or sometimes lean more toward the Russians due to historical ties.”
“Nonetheless, this is not the first time that other countries have approached us, saying they are traveling to Russia and would like it to be safe at that time. There is such diplomacy, a certain diplomatic format. We treat other countries very carefully and respectfully, and we hear — hear what they ask us and what they request,” the head of state noted.
Zelenskyy added: “Ukraine definitely bears no responsibility for what is happening in Russia today. That’s a fact. We are responsible for what happens here. Moreover, I’m sure that other countries engage in similar diplomacy with the Russians when they come to us, and as experience shows, we’ve had many different leaders visit, and during their visits there have been all kinds of attacks, assaults, and intimidation.”
- Intelligence sources claim that the FSB is preparing staged terrorist attacks in several Russian regions during the May 9 parades, intending to blame Ukraine.
