Lyman's buildings, rail hub make it prime target for Russian forces
Lyman in the Donetsk region is strategically important to Russia. Its many buildings offer shelter for troops, making it an ideal staging ground for further advances
Maksym Bilousov, head of the communications department of the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade, stated this on Hromadske Radio.
According to him, Lyman is a railway hub. There are many buildings there with basements that can be used for shelter. Therefore, this city could become a staging ground for further advancement.
Maksym Bilousov recalled that the Russian troops had already captured Lyman at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. However, at the end of 2022, the settlement was liberated. So now the Russians want to regain control over it.
According to the spokesman for the 60th Brigade, the military is doing everything to prevent the enemy from having a staging ground for further advancement toward the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. He added that the 60th Brigade is doing everything to prevent Russian forces from approaching the city from other directions.
"We are doing everything we can to stabilize the front on our side and not let the enemy advance further. This is difficult, because sometimes the ratio of forces is one to six, and sometimes one to ten. But the brigade has become part of the 3rd Army Corps. And all the achievements that previously belonged to the Third Assault Brigade and now exist in the 3rd Army Corps—meaning the corps-level support—have significantly strengthened our brigade," the serviceman emphasized.
