Russian agent sentenced to 15 years for leaking Ukrainian Forces' positions
The Russian military intelligence agent was sentenced to 15 years in prison for passing the geolocation of Ukrainian Armed Forces units in the spring of 2023
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reports on June 18.
It is noted that Russia used intelligence to plan combat operations involving airstrikes, heavy artillery, and assault groups.
SBU detained the Russian agent in May 2023. It was revealed that the detainee was a resident of Kostiantynivka who had been recruited remotely by a Russian intelligence officer.
To communicate with the Russian forces, the agent used an anonymous chat on a messaging app where he regularly deleted correspondence. The traitor hoped to receive a monetary reward for carrying out hostile tasks, which was supposed to be transferred to his bank card.
However, the SBU apprehended the agent earlier while he was conducting additional reconnaissance near a military facility. Based on the evidence collected, the court found him guilty (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
- On June 17, the Security Service of Ukraine had served a notice of suspicion of treason to a man who was preparing a new series of Russian strikes on the Nikopol district of Dnipropetrovsk region.
