Russia to press for legitimization of occupied Ukrainian territories in Istanbul talks
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has refused to say who would be part of the Russian delegation at the talks in Turkey. Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the talks in Istanbul with Kyiv should recognize the "realities on the ground," including Russia’s incorporation of Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories
Kommersant reported the information.
According to Ryabkov, Moscow is “ready for serious negotiations” in Turkey but doubts whether “the other side is reliable in making agreements.”
He said the meeting in Istanbul would focus on achieving “a reliable and sustainable settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.” At the same time, he stressed the need to “recognize the realities on the ground in the context of the Ukrainian conflict, including the incorporation of the new territories into Russia.”
Earlier, RIA Novosti reported, citing Peskov, that Russia is preparing for a visit to Istanbul.
“The Kremlin will announce who will represent Russia in negotiations with Ukraine when Putin deems it necessary.”
He also claimed that Europe’s approach to the war in Ukraine is “geared toward prolonging the conflict and stands in contrast to the positions of Moscow and Washington.”
In his words, Europe “has completely taken Ukraine’s side and cannot claim a balanced role in the negotiation process.”
