Russia plans to create two new armies - British intelligence
The Russian command intends to create two new armies this year. However, these attempts may be hindered by a lack of new equipment and infrastructure problems
The UK Ministry of Defence reports.
It is noted that on March 20, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced his intention to create two new armies in 2024. According to him, they will consist of 14 divisions and 16 brigades.
The exact type, location, and composition of these units has not been specified, although they are likely to consist of mechanized, armored, artillery, and logistical units.
British intelligence experts emphasize that these new formations may be related to previous announcements of new units and the planned increase in the number of brigades in divisions.
The agency added that given Russia's successful recruitment efforts, it is likely that these units could be sufficiently staffed.
“However, given Russia’s limited training, widespread use of legacy equipment, and infrastructure issues, it is likely these units will suffer similar resourcing problems,” the British Ministry of Defense emphasized.
- At the end of 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that provides for an increase in the Russian army by 170,000 people.
