Italian Ornella Muti visits Sochi, Russians say actress allegedly visited Mariupol

Italian actress Ornella Muti visited Russia last week, and later the Russians launched a fake news story that the celebrity had visited the occupied Ukrainian city of Mariupol

She posted the relevant photos on her Instagram.

Ornella Muti, the star of the films The Taming of the Shrew, Appassionata and Summer Affair, who has repeatedly declared her love for Russia, visited the Russian World Youth Festival in Sochi. She shared photos from the Russian city on social media and included the city of Sochi in the hashtag.

Instead, Russian propaganda media actively publish this particular photo, presenting it as a picture taken in Mariupol.

Official Russian media did not report on the Italian's visit. If she had indeed visited the Russian-occupied city, they would have reported it as soon as possible. The propaganda outlet TASS reported that Muti had arrived in Sochi. There, street artist Jorit Ciro Cerullo painted a portrait of young Muti on a building as a sign of the unity of the two cultures.

Without the permission of the Australian photographer, Cerullo also transferred the image of a crying girl to the wall of a house in Mariupol. Presumably, because of this mural, some Russian media outlets reported that Muti had come to Mariupol, not Sochi.
