Reuters reported the information, citing a White House official.

Indian oil refineries have already begun to reduce their purchases, though sources in India note that a significant change may not be apparent in the data until December or January.

According to the sources, Indian refineries have already placed their orders for November, which also include some shipments scheduled to arrive in December.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has not yet officially requested that companies reduce their imports of Russian oil.

India's oil ministry and the largest refineries that purchase Russian crude have not yet commented on the situation.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly assured U.S. President Donald Trump that India will stop buying oil from Russia.
