Acting Sumy Mayor Artem Kobzar reported the information.

"Today, a Shahed-type UAV strike was recorded on one of the city’s parking lots. As of now, there are no reports of fatalities. One person was injured and is currently in an ambulance," Kobzar stated at 3:10 p.m.

He added that all relevant emergency services are working at the scene.

Later, Kobzar reported that the attack damaged 19 vehicles — 11 were completely burned, and 8 sustained varying degrees of damage.

What happened before the strike?

Earlier, Kobzar had suggested that the occupiers likely attacked the city with strike drones.

"An explosion has been heard again in Sumy. Most likely, it was the Shahed drone that had been circling over the city for about an hour and a half. The entire city is covered in smoke. We’re heading to the site now," he said.

Kobzar also shared a video showing a large cloud of smoke rising from the impact site.

Russian April 13 strike on Sumy

On the morning of Palm Sunday, April 13, Russian occupation forces launched missile strikes on the center of the city of Sumy. As a result of the attack, 34 people were killed and at least 119 civilians were injured, including children — among them, a girl born in 2025.

The strike also claimed the lives of the Martynenko family from Stare Selo: mother Nataliya, father Mykola, and their son Maksym, a 6th-grade student. Another victim of the brutal Russian attack on Sumy was Olena Kohut, a piano and organ teacher and orchestra performer at the Shchepkin Drama Theater.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the attack, saying that only “deranged scum” could commit such an act, referring to the Russian strike on Sumy.

Leaders from various countries, institutions, and organizations also responded to the Russian ballistic attack on Sumy on Palm Sunday morning. Among them were the Presidents of France, Moldova, and Lithuania — Emmanuel Macron, Maia Sandu, and Gitanas Nausėda — as well as the EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, and others.

Keith Kellogg, special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump for Ukraine affairs, said that with the strike on central Sumy, Russia “has crossed every line.”
