How many warships can Russia deploy for strikes from the Black and Caspian Seas? Military expert breaks it down
Pavlo Lakiychuk, head of security programs at the Center for Global Studies Strategy XXI, warned of a real threat of missile strikes from the sea
He explained this on Espreso TV.
"The Russians currently have at least six missile carriers stationed in the Black Sea's outer roadstead. Corvettes and frigates each have eight launchers, and submarines carry six more. You can do the math — it's a significant number of missiles that can be launched at once," Lakiychuk said.
He also pointed out the danger from Russia's Caspian Flotilla. Ukrainian Defense Forces recently demonstrated their ability to strike the region with drones, proving that it's not beyond reach.
"But let’s not forget, the Kalibr missile carriers in the Caspian Sea haven’t gone anywhere. That fleet has three more warships, each capable of striking Ukraine with Kalibr missiles. So, when we talk about threats from the sea, we can’t afford to ignore these warning signs," Lakiychuk emphasized.
- As of Tuesday morning, November 19, six Russian warships were spotted in the Black Sea. Together, they hold up to 24 Kalibr cruise missiles, ready for a coordinated salvo.
