This was stated by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, according to Suspilne.
Leavitt said that Trump has made it clear that he first wants to see a permanent ceasefire to stop the killing, to stop the bloodshed. Also she adds that while he remains optimistic that he can strike a deal, he is also a realist.
According to her, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy must sit down at the negotiating table to find a way out of this situation.
At the same time, the spokesperson believes that Trump’s meeting with Zelenskyy demonstrates that the U.S. president is putting a lot of effort and time into ending Russia’s war against Ukraine and wants to be the peacemaker president he was during his first term.
- The 5th U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine and Director of the Eurasian Center at the Atlantic Council, John Herbst, believes that Donald Trump will make a big mistake if he pursues the idea of resetting relations with Russia.
