Ukrainian drone attacks St. Petersburg at night: drone crashes into oil refinery
Russians claim unidentified drone breached St. Petersburg night skies, crashing at Nevsky Mazut Oil Refinery: Ukrainian media links operation to GUR
Russian Telegram channels Fontanka and Mash on Moika reported the crash of the drone in St. Petersburg.
It is noted that at first, St. Petersburg residents reported a rumble heard in different parts of the city. At about 4:20 a.m. local time, Russian air defense tried to shoot down the UAV on approach, and an S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system was deployed 60 kilometers from St. Petersburg.
The downed drone managed to fly to the Nevsky district of St. Petersburg and crashed into the territory of the Nevsky Mazut plant, damaging several tanks. "Preliminarily, there was no serious fire, three empty tanks were quickly extinguished," Fontanka reports. According to preliminary reports, there were no injuries.
The publication adds that the carpet plan was introduced at Pulkovo airport from 3:53 to 5:11am.
The incident was later commented on by St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov. According to him, "an incident that required the attention of law enforcement agencies occurred at night at an industrial site in the Nevsky district. No one was injured. No significant damage to property was caused. Investigative measures are currently underway.”
Ukrainian intelligence special operation
Later, Suspilne and RBC-Ukraine's sources in the special services said that the Main Intelligence Directorate was behind the operation.
According to the media source, the Russians tried to shoot down the Ukrainian UAV with the S-400 system, which is the most powerful air defense system in the Russian arsenal. However, the shootdown was not effective - the drone still crashed on the territory of the Nevsky Oil Refinery. "It is significant that they used the S-400 to hit Ukrainian drones. It is very interesting how this Russian air defense system works since after the drone was allegedly shot down, it still fell on the territory of our target," the source explained.
- The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that a drone was shot down over the Pskov region the same night. This region borders the Baltic States.
