Ukraine's General Staff denies claims about "Russian advance into Sumy region"
As of March 18, 2025, the situation on the border of Sumy region with Kursk region is under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces
This was stated in a post by the General Staff on Facebook.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces responded to a statement by MP Marianna Bezuhla, who wrote about the supposed advance of Russian forces into Sumy, claiming that the occupation forces had entered "as deep as the area we still control in the Kursk region."
"The information circulating on social media about the advancement of Russian military units into the Sumy region is not true. Russian forces are attempting to enter some border settlements in small groups. The enemy is being swiftly destroyed by firepower thanks to coordinated actions and a well-established defense system," the General Staff stated.
The command emphasizes that Ukrainian forces will successfully stop any Russian attempts to establish a foothold in Sumy, and continue to hold territories in the Kursk region.
"It is important to note that the enemy continues to conduct information and psychological warfare, spreading propaganda narratives to discredit the military command and create panic and despair within Ukrainian society. We urge people to trust only official sources and verify information," the General Staff added.
- On March 17, Ukraine's Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region of Russia had repositioned to more advantageous defensive lines and denied reports of Ukrainian military encirclement.
