Speaking to BFMTV, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot clarified the plan. He was asked about the joint proposal from Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a limited truce in specific areas — airspace, maritime zones, and energy infrastructure.

Barrot explained that this initial ceasefire could pave the way for more comprehensive talks.

"This ceasefire in the sky, at sea, and concerning energy infrastructure will demonstrate Vladimir Putin's willingness to engage when he agrees to such a truce. From there, genuine peace negotiations can commence, because we want peace, but a peace that is reliable and lasting," Barrot said.

  • Following the London summit, Macron revealed that he and Starmer had proposed a "partial" cessation of hostilities, focusing on air, sea, and energy infrastructure. Macron emphasized that such a truce would be easily monitored and verified, in contrast to the vast land front that is difficult to oversee.
