Fires erupt at Moscow oil refinery and power plants after drone attacks
Following a drone strike on the night of September 1, fires broke out at the Moscow refinery in Kapotnya and the Kashira power plant. In the Tver region, the Konakovo power plant also caught fire after a drone attack
This was reported by Russian media and Telegram channels.
Russian air defense forces downed 10 drones heading toward Moscow overnight, according to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, as reported by TASS.
He claimed there were no damages, casualties, or threats to the refinery's operations.
However, the Russian Astra Telegram channel shared footage of a burning torch at the Kapotnya refinery (Moscow region), which was targeted by UAVs today. Residents have reportedly seen such a "pillar of fire" before, but following the UAV attack, the "torch is burning stronger."
The fire at the Kapotnya oil refinery was initially classified at the maximum level of severity, according to operational services that informed TASS. However, within minutes, the fire's severity level was reportedly downgraded from the fifth, the highest, to the second.
Additionally, the Kashira state regional power plant in the Moscow region caught fire after a drone strike.
In the Tver region, a fire also broke out at the Konakovo condensing power plant following a drone attack.
Five UAVs were shot down by air defense forces over the Tver region, the governor confirmed.
Later, he announced that the fire in the Konakovo district, caused by the UAV attack, had been contained.
Despite this, local media shared footage of a large fire at the Konakovo power plant. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire erupted following the UAV attack.
