Ukraine strikes Russia’s major explosives plant, oil terminal in overnight attacks
Ukrainian forces struck key Russian military-industrial and logistical targets overnight on October 6, including one of Russia’s largest explosives manufacturers, the Sverdlov Plant, and an oil transshipment terminal in occupied Crimea
According to a statement from Ukraine’s General Staff, the strike on the federal state-owned enterprise Sverdlov Plant was part of efforts “to reduce the enemy's offensive potential and missile and bomb strike capabilities.”
The Sverdlov Plant is among Russia’s main producers of explosives and ammunition, capable of manufacturing a wide range of munitions, including aircraft and artillery shells, aerial bombs—both unguided and guided—anti-tank missile warheads, and ammunition for engineering troops and air defense systems. The plant also equips warheads for unified inter-service glide munitions.
“Numerous explosions and fires have been reported in the target area,” the statement said.
In addition, Ukrainian forces targeted the Sea Oil Terminal JSC in Feodosia, Crimea — a multifunctional complex used for the transshipment of oil and petroleum products between rail, sea, and road transport. The terminal is reportedly used to supply Russia’s occupying forces.
“As a result of the successful strike, a large-scale fire was recorded on the territory of the facility,” the military said.
A separate strike was reported on an ammunition depot belonging to a logistics battalion of Russia’s 18th Combined Arms Army in occupied Crimea. Details of the damage are still being verified.
“The Defense Forces continue to take all measures to undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian occupiers and force the Russian Federation to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine,” the statement added.
Initial reports from occupied Crimea
The local Telegram channel Crimean Wind posted videos.
At midnight on October 6, residents of occupied Crimea reported explosions near the Saky airfield in Novofedorivka. Witnesses said bursts of gunfire were heard, followed by a series of explosions around the airfield.
According to local social media channels, the incident was allegedly the result of a drone attack.
Explosions were also reported overnight in the Simferopol district, while air raid sirens were heard at several military facilities in Sevastopol.
At 1:15 a.m., reports emerged of Russian air defenses operating over Feodosia. Later, it was reported that an oil depot was hit, followed by a series of explosions. A fire broke out, with the glow visible from 30 km away.
Another fuel tank exploded at the Feodosia oil terminal, and only at 2:27 a.m. were air raid sirens activated in the city.
Explosions were heard in Yevpatoria. Local residents on social media reported a strike on a military unit between Yevpatoria and the village of Uyutne, allegedly damaging one of the radars.
Later, reports mentioned “powerful explosions” near Andriivka (close to Sevastopol), near the Kacha airfield. A series of explosions was also reported in Sevastopol.
On the outskirts of Yevpatoria, debris from a downed drone allegedly fell on residential buildings and the Kosmos garage cooperative.
