Russia cannot defeat Ukraine by military means - geopolitics expert
Mykhailo Samus, Director of the New Geopolitics Research Network and Consortium for Defense Information, has said that Russia will attempt to destabilize Ukraine internally, as it is unable to defeat the country on the battlefield
Speaking at the Via Carpatia 2024 forum on Espreso TV channel, Samus stated, “My colleagues and I have concluded that the biggest threat to Ukraine is internal instability. Russia has always sought to undermine Ukraine from within - this has been the case for the last 100 years, and it continues today. They aim to destroy the Ukrainian state. Ukraine has not lost this war militarily. Russia will not defeat us on the battlefield. Yes, they may gain a few more kilometers, but they cannot win militarily. Therefore, the destabilization of Ukraine’s internal situation has become Russia’s main priority.”
The expert emphasized that Russia is trying to destabilize Ukraine in various ways, by using the issue of mobilization, which thus becomes a threat to stability within the country. Samus pointed out that Ukraine needs to adopt effective mobilization strategies to reinforce the state, rather than undermining it.
"We need to change the mobilization system. This should involve recruitment, motivation, and respect for the citizens serving in the Armed Forces. Equally important is the issue of demobilization and the rotation of current military personnel. These issues are being discussed, but they are not being communicated enough at the state and societal level," he stressed.
