EU's von der Leyen calls for “urgent rearmament” of Europe after London summit

She described the discussions as "good and frank," focusing on the measures needed to strengthen Ukraine's position. Von der Leyen emphasized that Ukraine requires "comprehensive security guarantees" to support both its economic and military standing.

"We urgently have to rearm Europe," she stated, revealing that the European Commission would propose a plan to address this at the European Council meeting on March 6. "We really have to step up massively," she added.

Highlighting the importance of sustained defense investments, she stressed that it is critical for the security of the European Union. "In the geostrategic environment we face, we must prepare for the worst and enhance our defenses accordingly," she said.

When asked about her message to the U.S., von der Leyen reaffirmed the EU's commitment, saying, "We are ready, together with you, to defend democracy and uphold the rule of law, ensuring that no nation can invade, bully, or change borders through force."
