"For 35 days, the Chornobyl nuclear power plant was under occupation. Russian soldiers looted the laboratories, captured the guards and mocked the staff, and used them to launch further military operations," the president said.
According to him, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, Zaporizhzhia NPP, is currently under Russian occupation. He emphasized that it is the world's duty to put pressure on Russia to ensure that ZNPP is liberated and returned under full control of Ukraine and that all nuclear facilities in Ukraine are protected from Russian attacks.
"This is the only way to ensure that the world does not suffer new radiation disasters, which is exactly what the Russian occupiers' presence at ZNPP threatens every day," Zelensyky emphasized.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy also mentioned nuclear terrorism. They emphasized that such tragedies as those at the Chornobyl NPP should never have happened again.
"However, more than two years ago, due to the actions of Russian terrorists, the world was again on the verge of a nuclear incident. ZNPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, was turned into a military facility by barbarians," the ministry added.
On April 25, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the attacks on Zaporizhzhia NPP had stopped in recent days, but the situation at the plant remained unpredictable.
