Ukrainian MPs gather 145K signatures to lift NSDC sanctions on Poroshenko
On Tuesday, March 25, members of the European Solidarity faction submitted 145,000 signatures to Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, calling for the repeal of National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) sanctions against Ukraine's fifth president, Petro Poroshenko
Espreso correspondent Kateryna Halko reported the information.
Faction co-chair Iryna Herashchenko stated that last week, MPs attempted to submit these signatures through the President’s Office reception, but the office refused to register multiple electronic petitions calling for the cancellation of what they described as illegal sanctions against Poroshenko.
"The President’s Office public reception is locked, and no one is there, even though the civil service should be functioning and employees are being paid. I want to remind everyone that 145,000 Ukrainian citizens signed against this injustice and the unlawful sanctions against Poroshenko. But this isn’t just about him—this is about the rule of law. A country seeking EU membership cannot have extrajudicial sanctions imposed at the whim of one person," she emphasized.
MP Sofia Fedyna also expressed outrage, noting that even the electronic petition system, meant to allow citizens to participate in the democratic process, had been blocked.
"We collected physical signatures, and even this fundamental democratic mechanism, which was fully implemented under Petro Poroshenko, is now being destroyed by the 'Servants'," Fedyna explained.
Herashchenko noted that such actions by the authorities have become "systematic."
At the same time, Oleh Syniutka thanked Ukrainians for their civic engagement, emphasizing that each signature represents support for democratic freedoms in Ukraine.
"The first requirement for European Union integration is upholding democratic freedoms, freedom of speech, and all the rights enshrined in the Constitution. Every Ukrainian who signed in defense of Poroshenko signed in defense of all of us and our country," he stressed.
Nina Yuzhanina added that the signatures represent "an appeal from the people to the President," as he was the one who approved the sanctions against Poroshenko.
"With his signature and decree, he imposed sanctions on a Ukrainian citizen who resides in Ukraine, who is the Fifth President of Ukraine, and who is the largest private benefactor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the country's top volunteer," Yuzhanina concluded.
- The fifth president of Ukraine, leader of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko, believes that Ukraine is interested in both a 30-day ceasefire and a comprehensive peace agreement.
