Europe shifts strategy for Ukraine, focusing on defense industry funding
European countries are likely to change their strategy regarding aid to Ukraine, shifting the focus from supplying ready-made weapons to funding the development of the defense industry
This approach is expected to accelerate and improve the support process, according to sources among European officials, as reported by The Washington Post.
In this new model, more European countries are considering investing in Ukraine's defense industry instead of sending already manufactured weapons.
According to European officials, this approach will speed up support, as European weapon supplies are running low after being sent to Ukraine.
Additionally, this strategy allows NATO countries to use Ukraine as a testing ground for the development and testing of weapons, especially drones, on which NATO lacks Ukraine's level of experience.
"It's a win-win. It’s cheaper for us. They need to produce. And the Ukrainians are teaching us a lot," a source familiar with the matter said.
At the same time, as reported by The New York Times, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has effectively halted discussions about supporting Ukraine, despite the expiration of the previous assistance package approved under President Biden.
