EU to allocate €200 million for school meals for children in Ukraine — von der Leyen
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced that the EU will allocate about €200 million to provide school meals for Ukrainian students
She said this during her speech at the conference Restoring Childhood and Humanity — Advancing Peace in Ukraine through the Return of Ukrainian Children held as part of the 80th UN General Assembly, Suspilne reports.
Von der Leyen said that the European Union supports Ukraine and announced that about €200 million would be allocated for school meals. She added that the EU would not stop until Ukrainian children return home, stressing that the commitment applies to everyone still held captive on foreign soil.
She noted that the EU is also funding the work of Ukraine’s prosecutor’s office so that families “see justice restored.” At the same time, the EU together with UNICEF will provide over €10 million to help Ukrainian children “recover, learn, and dream again.”
Von der Leyen also noted that over 1.5 million Ukrainian children live in temporarily occupied territories and are being raised under russification.
