EU ambassadors approve extension of individual sanctions for violating Ukraine’s sovereignty

EU ambassadors have approved an extension of sanctions against those threatening Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence for another six months, lasting until September 15, 2025

Suspilne reports this with reference to a top diplomat who spoke on condition of anonymity. 

According to him, according to the decision made at the ambassadorial level, four people were removed from the sanctions list: Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev, businessman Alisher Usmanov's sister Gulbahor Ismailova, former head of the European Jewish Congress, businessman Vyacheslav Moshe Kantor, and former head of the Eurochem company Volodymyr Rashevsky.

Three people who have died were also removed from the list. These are former USSR Prime Minister Nikolai Ryzhkov and Russian military officers Andrei Yermishko and Alexei Bolshakov.

  • The day before, Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that Hungary had refused to block the extension of EU sanctions against Russia after three people were removed from the sanctions list.
