Erdogan wants to bring together Zelenskyy, Putin and Trump in Turkey
Turkish President Erdogan says Turkey is becoming a key center for peaceful diplomacy and is ready to host talks between the presidents of Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia
TRT Haber reports informs Erdogan said this following a meeting in Istanbul
Erdogan stated that his greatest wish is “to bring Putin and Zelenskyy together in Istanbul or Ankara.”
“I would even like Trump to join them. If they agree, I’ll also take part in the meeting - and this way, we’ll turn Istanbul into a center of peace. We’ll take the first steps toward this after the latest meeting,” he noted.
The Turkish leader emphasized that Turkey’s principled policy has once again been reaffirmed - to end the war between Russia and Ukraine based on a just peace.
“This was truly a remarkable meeting. As a result, although thousands of prisoners had already been exchanged before, this time the number exceeded one thousand. Moreover, it involved the mutual return of the bodies of the fallen from both sides. These figures are truly striking. The data provided by both Russia and Ukraine, and announced by my minister at the press conference in Istanbul, show how important these meetings are,” Erdogan said.
Erdogan described the meeting as highly significant, noting that it led to the exchange of over a thousand prisoners - a number surpassing previous swaps - as well as the mutual return of fallen soldiers' remains. He indicated that the figures shared by both Russia and Ukraine, later presented by his minister at a press conference in Istanbul, underscored the importance of such diplomatic efforts.
The meeting between the delegations of Ukraine and Russia, which lasted just over an hour, was the second since May 16.
As a result of the meeting, the parties were able to reach an agreement on the next exchanges of certain categories of military personnel, and Kyiv handed over a list of several hundred Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
And the Russian delegation said that it was offering Kyiv a temporary ceasefire in certain areas of the frontline.
